Danish nurses challenge wage statistics ahead of strike

In Denmark, nurses are engaging in a debate regarding wage transparency and accuracy ahead of an upcoming strike. Gitte Fremlev Schrøder, a nurse at OUH with 20 years of experience and a specialization in continence nursing, has shared her pay stub to provide a concrete example of industry wages.

Schrøder reported a base salary of 26,244.25 DKK for a 30-hour work week in May. She emphasized that the figures must be viewed in context of the significant responsibilities held by nursing staff.

The discussion follows reports from the think tank Cepos, which stated that a nurse's gross monthly salary is 42,800 DKK. However, critics note this figure includes pensions and various supplements for evening, night, and weekend shifts, which may not represent a standard monthly wage. Data from 2020 indicated an average gross monthly salary of 40,656 DKK.
