Danish People's Party faces defamation threat from former member
Two city council members from Tønder have resigned from the Danish People's Party (Dansk Folkeparti) following a dispute regarding the payment for election posters. Allan Svendsen, one of the departing members, has threatened to sue the party for defamation.
The conflict originated from dissatisfaction with the quality of posters used during the 2025 municipal elections. While the party claimed Svendsen owed 36,000 DKK and suggested he attempted to avoid payment by resigning, Svendsen denies these allegations. He maintains that he never refused to pay and has provided documentation showing that the funds were transferred to the party on Saturday, prior to his formal resignation and before the matter reached the media.
Svendsen stated he is seeking legal counsel to clear his name, asserting that the party's secretary, Kenneth Kristensen Berth, made injurious statements regarding his character. The party has acknowledged the payment and indicated they expect the funds to be in their account by Tuesday.
