Danish police fingerprint register error may have freed criminals

A widespread error in the Danish police fingerprint register, known as AFIS, may have allowed criminals to evade justice. Documents from the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK) and the National Police (Rigspolitiet) indicate that fingerprints collected from crime scenes in thousands of criminal cases were affected by the flaw over a long period.

The issue is reportedly linked to errors occurring during the migration to a new system. This technical failure has raised concerns that perpetrators involved in numerous criminal cases may have gone undetected due to the inaccuracies in the registry.
