Danish Prosecutor allegedly attempted to hide major police IT error

The Danish Director of Public Prosecutions allegedly attempted to conceal a critical IT error within the police force that could have allowed perpetrators in thousands of cases to go free.

Reports suggest that the prosecution service sought to prevent the error from being reported to the Evidentiary Oversight Authority (Bevismiddeltilsynet). Legal experts indicate that the Director of Public Prosecutions may have encouraged the police to characterize widespread systemic failures as ‘isolated incidents’ to bypass mandatory oversight. The police are expected to provide formal notification regarding the matter in June 2025.
