Danish public transport reports record passenger numbers
Public transportation services in Denmark are reporting significant increases in passenger numbers. The Copenhagen Metro achieved its busiest weekend ever during the World Athletics Championships, recording 1.4 million passengers from Friday to Sunday. High activity was particularly noted at stations near the event, including Forum and Vibenshus Runddel.
Hovedstadens Letbane has also seen higher than expected demand during its first month of full operation. The service is averaging approximately 24,000 daily passengers on the stretch from Ishøj to Lundtofte, which is double the initial forecast of 12,000. Despite this growth, management acknowledged that the first month was marked by unsatisfactory operational disruptions.
In North Jutland, the Plusbussen service is expanding its schedule due to rising ridership. NT reported that passenger numbers in the first half of 2026 reached nearly 1.94 million, a 21 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. To accommodate the growth, the fleet will be expanded with additional buses and increased departures toward the Hospital City and Væddeløbsbanen.
