Danish Resuscitation Council issues new defibrillator guidelines

The Danish Resuscitation Council (Dansk Råd for Genoplivning) has released ten new national recommendations for the placement and maintenance of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). These guidelines aim to ensure that life-saving equipment is more effectively accessible to the public.

Currently, approximately one in ten cardiac arrests is met with the use of a defibrillator. Data indicates that up to one-fifth of the more than 26,000 registered defibrillators in Denmark are either non-functional or inaccessible when needed. A key priority of the new recommendations is ensuring that devices are available 24 hours a day.

Stine Strandkjær, Director of the Danish Resuscitation Council, noted that while Denmark has seen significant progress in resuscitation, official guidelines for organizations and individuals providing AEDs have been lacking since 2022. The new standards are intended to bridge this gap and improve survival rates by facilitating faster access to emergency equipment.
