Danish Tax Agency to open preliminary tax assessment in November

The Danish Tax Agency (Skattestyrelsen) will grant approximately 5.4 to 5.5 million citizens access to their preliminary tax assessment (forskudsopgørelse) for the upcoming year starting around November 24. This document serves as a budget for expected income and deductions.

Tax authorities advise citizens to review and update their information to ensure correct monthly tax payments and to avoid back taxes (restskat). Key areas for adjustment include changes in salary, bank or mortgage interest rates, commuting deductions, and business profits. In 2026, over 1 million citizens made changes to their assessments.

Ulrick Junge, Deputy Director at the Danish Tax Agency, noted that individuals should be particularly attentive if they have changed jobs, received different wages, or experienced changes in interest rates. Failing to correct the assessment can lead to tax liabilities being settled during the annual tax return in March of the following year.
