Danish teachers report burnout and loss of autonomy

Teachers in Denmark are reporting significant challenges regarding working conditions and mental health. Johan Stengaard, a teacher in Odense, describes how school and inclusion reforms have radically altered the profession. He notes that increased demands for documentation, more meetings, and less preparation time have led to a loss of professional autonomy and a sense of helplessness.

Thomas Andreasen, chairman of the working environment committee for the Danish Union of Teachers, corroborates these concerns. He states that there is insufficient time to provide high-quality, varied, and engaging instruction due to the current workload and administrative requirements.
