Danish travelers face high costs without travel insurance
A new study conducted by YouGov for Gjensidige reveals that one in four Danes has traveled within Europe without travel insurance in the last three years. Additionally, six percent of Danes traveled without both travel insurance and a valid EU health insurance card.
Lene Ovesen, Director of Travel Damage at Gjensidige, warns that while most trips proceed without issue, the financial and practical consequences of illness or injury can be severe. Hospitalization abroad can cost tens of thousands of kroner, and repatriation to Denmark can exceed 100,000 kroner.
Ovesen also clarified that the blue EU health insurance card is not a substitute for travel insurance. While useful, the card does not cover treatment outside of Europe, and travelers must pay for their own repatriation even within Europe.
