Danish trees recognized in European TreeTag campaign

Several notable trees in Denmark have been recognized as part of the European TreeTag campaign, an initiative designed to raise awareness about the importance of urban trees for local communities and the environment.

In Svaneke, an old roadside poplar tree has received both a TreeTag and the status of an ‘evighedstræ’ (eternity tree) from the Danish Society for Nature Conservation Bornholm. Morten Bach Jørgensen, the landscape manager for Bornholms Regionskommune, noted that while the physical tag is a symbol, the true value lies in fostering public interest and connection to large trees.

Additionally, a chestnut tree located at Asnæs Station in Odsherred Municipality has been selected for the same European campaign. The initiative highlights how urban trees contribute to environmental health by purifying air, absorbing CO2, providing shade, and supporting biodiversity.
