Danmarks Fængsler records largest student intake in seven years
Danmarks Fængsler has reported its largest intake of uniformed students in seven years, with a total of 280 new students enrolling this year. A single intake of 123 students began training on September 1, marking a record for a single enrollment period.
The new students will train for various roles, including prison officers, transport officers, security officers, and workshop masters. Justice Minister Nicolai Wammen stated that recent recruitment initiatives, such as historic wage increases and full salary during training, are beginning to yield results.
This surge in recruitment follows a 2025 criminal justice reform aimed at building more prisons and establishing approximately 2,000 new places in the coming years. However, the Prison Federation has cautioned that higher intake numbers alone may not suffice, noting that approximately 40 percent of probationary employees do not remain in their positions.
