Danny Boyle confirms 28 Years Later Part 3 is in development
Director Danny Boyle has confirmed that the third installment of the ‘28 Years Later’ trilogy will be produced. Speaking at the Zurich Film Festival, Boyle stated that while an exact production timeline is not yet determined, a “very good script” by Alex Garland is already completed.
Boyle emphasized that Cillian Murphy will have a significantly larger role in this final chapter compared to his brief appearance in the previous film, ‘The Bone Temple’. Murphy is expected to reprise his role as Jim, a character he originated in the 2002 film ‘28 Days Later’.
The announcement follows uncertainty regarding the franchise's future after ‘The Bone Temple’ saw a disappointing global box office performance, earning approximately $58.5 million compared to the $151 million grossed by the first film in the revival. Despite the commercial setback of the second film, Boyle remains confident in the project due to persistent public demand.
