Danny Boyle Opens Venice Film Festival with Rupert Murdoch Drama 'Ink

British director Danny Boyle will open the 83rd Venice Film Festival with the world premiere of “Ink”, a biographical drama about media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s 1960s takeover of the British tabloid The Sun. The film, adapted by playwright James Graham from his own stage play, stars Guy Pearce as Murdoch, Jack O’Connell as editor Larry Lamb and Claire Foy as Jules Davies. It marks Boyle’s first feature competition entry at Venice and the first time one of his films will premiere on the Lido.

“Ink” is scheduled to open the festival on 2 September, with the competition running until 12 September. Production is handled by Boyle, Tessa Ross and Tracey Seaward. Netflix has acquired U.S. and Latin American rights, while Studiocanal plans a theatrical release in 2027.
