Danny Boyle puts third ‘28 Years Later’ film on hold
Director Danny Boyle has announced that the third installment of the horror trilogy, ‘28 Years Later’, is currently on the “back burner”. Speaking at the London Film Festival, Boyle clarified that while screenwriter Alex Garland has completed a “fantastic” script, the project is not a current priority for Sony Pictures.
Two primary factors are contributing to the delay: a lack of necessary financing and the busy schedule of Alex Garland. Garland is currently focused on a major film adaptation of the video game ‘Elden Ring’ for A24.
Despite the uncertainty, Boyle expressed hope that the film will eventually be made to complete the trilogy. He also confirmed that Cillian Murphy is expected to reprise his role as Jim. The previous entry in the series, ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’, reportedly earned approximately $58 million against a $63 million budget, a factor that may influence future funding decisions.
