Danny Buijs criticizes journalist Valentijn Driessen

Fortuna Sittard manager Danny Buijs has responded to criticism regarding a recent on-field incident involving player Shiloh ‘t Zand. During a match against NEC last week, Buijs was seen shouting at and physically grabbing ‘t Zand after substituting him due to dissatisfaction with the player's attitude.

Buijs addressed the matter ahead of the match against Excelsior, stating that he has not discussed the incident further with ‘t Zand and maintains that their relationship remains strong. He dismissed external opinions, emphasizing that the bond between coach and player is what matters most.

Buijs also launched a sharp critique at journalist Valentijn Driessen, who had criticized the manager's conduct on the Kick-off podcast. Driessen had argued that while Buijs can be hot-tempered, coaches should not lay hands on players. Buijs dismissed Driessen's commentary, suggesting the journalist was attempting to emulate the style of Johan Derksen.
