Danny Depew faces dangerous offender designation in Castlegar

Crown Counsel has requested a dangerous offender designation for 59-year-old Danny Depew following his guilty plea to child sex offences in Castlegar. Depew admitted to internet luring a person under 16 and making sexually explicit material available to a minor. These offences occurred in August 2024.

Depew has an extensive criminal history involving sexual offences across Canada. His past includes a 2020 conviction in Abbotsford for luring a child and breaching a prohibition order, as well as involvement in a 2019 child exploitation probe in Ontario.

Additionally, Depew was the subject of multiple public warnings by the Calgary Police Service in 2010 and 2013. His prior convictions in Alberta include sexual assault, sexual exploitation of a person with a disability, assault, and break-and-enter. Court records from 2012 noted a diagnosis of pedophilia and fantasies involving sexual sadism.
