Danny Ellerd graduates with 4.0 GPA after 20 years of addiction

Danny Ellerd, a man who struggled with heroin addiction for nearly 20 years, has achieved a remarkable academic comeback. After being found by police in a critical condition under an overpass in Oklahoma City, weighing only 41kg, Ellerd entered a recovery center named Hope Is Alive.

Following his rehabilitation, Ellerd enrolled at Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City campus, studying Computer Information Systems. He successfully graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA and was awarded the Women for OSU Scholar scholarship in 2025. Throughout his studies, he managed the responsibilities of full-time work, full-time education, and caring for an infant.

Ellerd has maintained sobriety for over 1,500 days and has authored a book documenting his journey to serve as a guide for others seeking a similar path to recovery.
