Danny Lamb retires from professional cricket due to spinal injury
Sussex all-rounder Danny Lamb has announced his immediate retirement from professional cricket at the age of 30. The decision follows medical advice regarding a severe spinal cord injury caused by a disc herniation in his neck suffered earlier this season.
Lamb underwent urgent neck discectomy and fusion surgery last month to address the injury. Despite the procedure, the ongoing physical consequences have made continuing his career impossible. In a statement, Lamb noted that while the end of his career due to injury is incredibly difficult, the decision is necessary for his long-term health.
Lamb’s professional career spanned over a decade, during which he represented both Lancashire and Sussex. He made 93 appearances for Lancashire before joining Sussex in 2023, where he contributed to the club’s promotion to Division One of the County Championship.
