Danny Trejo defends role in Daily Wire film ‘Pawn Shop’
Actor Danny Trejo has addressed social media criticism regarding his role in the film ‘Pawn Shop’, a project produced by Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire. Critics have accused the actor of participating in propaganda favorable to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In statements to TMZ and via social media, Trejo defended his identity and community ties, stating, “I am a proud Mexican who has always been and will always be a supporter of my community. I am also obviously pro-immigrant. I am not pro-ICE.” He explained that he accepted the role because it offers a positive portrayal of a Latino veteran who owns a pawn shop.
The film reportedly follows a federal agent seeking shelter in a Minneapolis pawn shop during unrest related to immigration enforcement. While production has faced local challenges in Montana, including a temporary shutdown due to community concerns, Trejo maintains that his professional work as an actor is separate from political endorsements.
