Danone to acquire Huel after UK regulator clears deal

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has cleared Danone’s proposed acquisition of Huel, bypassing the need for a more intensive phase two investigation. The deal, valued at approximately €1 billion or $1.2 billion, was initially reviewed to determine if the merger would negatively impact competition within the United Kingdom.

Danone announced the acquisition in March as part of a strategic push into the functional and complete nutrition markets. By acquiring Huel, a company known for its plant-based meal replacements and strong direct-to-consumer model, Danone aims to bridge the gap between its consumer brands, such as Activia, and its specialized medical nutrition division.

Huel has shown significant financial growth, reporting a 40% increase in profits in its last financial year ending July 31, 2025, with revenues reaching £254 million. The company maintains a strong presence in the UK, Europe, and the US, utilizing both retail channels and digital sales.
