Danone to invest 50 million euros in Volvic plant

Danone has announced a 50 million euro investment in its Volvic bottling plant in Auvergne, France, to be completed by 2030. The funding aims to modernize facilities and improve water resource management.

A key component of this investment is the ‘Re Use’ project, scheduled for 2028, which intends to reuse extracted water for non-consumption purposes. This initiative is expected to save 220 million liters of water annually. Additionally, the company plans to install a more efficient production line at the site, which currently supports approximately 800 employees and 1,400 direct and indirect jobs.

Despite the investment, environmental groups remain concerned about water resource pressure following recent periods of drought. The company must also comply with legal requirements to reduce annual water withdrawals by an average of 5%, while operating under quotas set by the Puy-de-Dôme prefecture.
