Danone's Activia Kefir receives AENOR certification in Portugal
Kefir consumption has seen significant growth, with the category increasing by 71% in volume during 2025. In Spain, the product is present in nearly four out of ten households, and seven out of ten people have tried it.
Despite its popularity, research from Rovira i Virgili University indicates that 80% of analyzed kefir products do not mention the presence of yeasts on their labels, even though yeasts are an essential part of the fermentation process.
In response to these transparency needs, Activia Kefir has obtained AENOR certification in Portugal, joining its existing certification in Spain. This certification verifies three specific areas: the presence of yeasts in fermentation, their declaration on the label, and the application of quality controls during production.
