Dansk Folkeparti faces resignations and unveils new family policies
Dansk Folkeparti (DF) is facing internal shifts and strategic repositioning during its annual meeting in Roskilde. In Tønder, two municipal council members, Allan Svendsen and Pernille Mai Brylle, have resigned from the party to become independents. Svendsen cited a conflict of principles and a need for transparency, while party leadership described the matter as a non-political issue.
At the annual meeting, party leader Morten Messerschmidt introduced new political priorities focused on 'family time' as a form of political capital. Proposed measures include special tax deductions for large families, the right to work part-time, and pension bonuses for women. Messerschmidt also restricted journalist access to the organizational portion of the meeting, expressing concerns that media coverage might take statements out of context.
Additionally, cultural commentary noted Messerschmidt’s use of Tolkien’s 'The Lord of the Rings' to frame right-wing identity and values, drawing parallels to similar rhetorical strategies used by international figures like Giorgia Meloni.
