Dante's Inferno reimagined in Sicily and Milan for 2026 performances

In the Gole dell'Alcantara in Sicily, the outdoor production "Inferno 2026" opens on July 23 and runs nightly until September 6. Director Giovanni Anfuso casts Luigi Nicotra as a more empathetic, anxious Dante, supported by Salvo Piro as Virgil and a redesigned costume and choreography team led by Riccardo Cappello. The show offers two performances each evening, aiming to immerse audiences in the suffering of the damned.

In Milan, Corrado d’Elia presents a Dante‑focused program at Palazzo Sormani on July 15‑16, part of the Menotti in Sormani series. His reinterpretation treats the Inferno and Purgatorio as mirrors of human frailty, political decay, and the possibility of redemption, inviting viewers to reflect on inner awareness and forgiveness. Both events seek to make Dante’s medieval vision relevant to contemporary audiences.
