Danube low water levels trigger safety warnings in Budapest

Low water levels in the Danube have created new safety concerns in Budapest. Authorities have warned that walking across the river to reach the Sziget Festival is extremely dangerous. In response, the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) and festival organizers have installed fencing and deployed police supervision along the walking paths to prevent accidents.

Separately, a man reported finding a rusty object resembling a World War II artillery grenade in the riverbed near Nagytétényi Road. Although police arrived at the scene, the object disappeared before they could secure it. An investigation has been launched into the potential misuse of explosives, and authorities are urging the public not to touch or move any suspicious objects found in the riverbed, as unexploded ordnance remains highly lethal.
