Danube River flow in Romania remains well below seasonal averages
The Danube River's flow at the Baziaș entry point into Romania is expected to rise slightly to 1,300 m³/s, up from 1,250 m³/s recorded on Saturday. Despite this increase, the flow remains significantly below the multi-annual October average of 3,900 m³/s.
According to the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA), river levels across the country are generally stable, though isolated increases may occur in small rivers within hilly and mountainous regions, particularly in central and eastern Romania, due to forecasted precipitation. Most river levels are expected to remain below attention thresholds.
The low water levels have implications for Romania's energy market, as the reduced flow contributed to the shutdown of the Cernavodă nuclear power plant. Nuclearelectrica estimates that both nuclear units at the plant are scheduled to restart on November 1.
