Danube riverbed sill construction continues near Paks

The National Water Directorate (OVF) has issued a warning stating that it is forbidden and life-threatening to stay on the newly constructed riverbed sill in Dunaszentbenedek on the Danube. While work on the left bank in Dunaszentbenedek has concluded and military units have withdrawn from the area, construction continues on the Paks side of the river.

Significant stabilization efforts remain at Paks, where experts and contractors must still process approximately 100,000 cubic meters of stone to ensure a long-term solution. The project, which has exceeded 6 billion forints, was initiated to raise water levels following critically low readings that threatened the operation of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant. Current reports indicate the plant's reactors and turbines are functioning at full capacity due to the improved water levels provided by the sill.

While the government reported the first phase was completed ahead of schedule using 43,000 cubic meters of stone, some reports have noted that the construction proceeded without certain environmental permits.
