Danyi residents face prolonged electricity outages in Togo

Residents in the Danyi prefecture, located in the Plateaux region of Togo, have experienced a prolonged electricity outage lasting over a week. The blackout, which began on Thursday, July 30, has severely disrupted daily life, impacting commerce, education, and healthcare.

Local businesses relying on refrigeration are facing losses due to spoiled goods, while electrical workshops such as welding and carpentry have been paralyzed. Students are also struggling to study in the evenings, and healthcare centers are forced to rely on solar solutions or generators to maintain operations.

While power briefly returned on a Saturday, it lasted only about twenty minutes before damaged transformers caused the electricity to fail again. The situation reflects a broader pattern of frequent power interruptions and load shedding across Togo, often attributed to grid overload, maintenance requirements, technical incidents, or weather-related damage to infrastructure.
