DAP urges Prime Minister to set timeline for institutional reforms

During its National Convention, the Democratic Action Party (DAP) called on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to establish a clear timeline for implementing key institutional reforms by the end of the year. DAP Chairman Gobind Singh Deo urged the government to expedite bills regarding the separation of the roles of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor, as well as legislation to impose a two-term limit on the Prime Minister.

Additional reform priorities mentioned include amendments to the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA) and the Peaceful Assembly Act. Gobind emphasized that the groundwork for these changes is already prepared and suggested allocating extra parliamentary sitting days to ensure they are passed.

DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook clarified that these reform agendas are not exclusive to the party but are shared commitments within the Pakatan Harapan coalition and the Unity Government. Loke also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to remaining a multi-racial organization dedicated to justice and democracy as it marks its 60th year.
