DAP vows to rebuild after heavy defeat in Negeri Sembilan state election

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) accepted a decisive loss in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, where Barisan Nasional emerged as the largest bloc with 18 seats, Pakatan Harapan secured 11 and Perikatan Nasional 7. DAP secretary‑general Anthony Loke lost his Chennah seat after three terms. Party chairman Gobind Singh Deo said the party expressed “full humility” over the outcome, thanked voters and pledged to “rebuild and move forward” while congratulating the newly elected administration.

Political analysts note that Loke’s defeat could open the way for Lim Guan Eng’s faction to regain influence within DAP. The party now faces a strategic crossroads between maintaining Loke’s moderate, coalition‑friendly approach or shifting toward a more assertive stance, a choice that could affect its appeal to Malay voters and its role in Malaysia’s broader opposition landscape.
