Daphne Caruana Galizia assassination: Nine years on, the fight for justice continues

Nine years after the assassination of Maltese investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, the movement for justice continues following significant legal developments. Caruana Galizia was killed by a car bomb on October 16, 2017, while investigating corruption, money laundering, and the connections between politics and business.

While several individuals have been convicted for their roles in the murder—including Vince Muscat, George and Alfred Degiorgio, Robert Agius, and Jamie Vella—the question of who ordered the killing remains unresolved. Recently, Maltese tycoon Yorgen Fenech was acquitted of complicity in the murder and criminal association by a jury. The Attorney General has since filed an appeal against this acquittal.

In solidarity, the Croatian Journalists' Association (HND) and the Croatian Syndicate of Journalists joined the international #JusticeForDaphne campaign. To protest the ongoing struggle for accountability and the restrictions on displaying justice-seeking posters in Malta, the Croatian organizations brought a protest poster to the Maltese consulate in Zagreb.
