Daphne Caruana Galizia murder trial intensifies as son testifies

During the ongoing trial of businessman Yorgen Fenech for complicity in the 2017 car‑bomb assassination of Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, her son Matthew Caruana Galizia took the stand. He described hearing the explosion, seeing the smoke and fire, and recounted his mother’s investigation into the Electogas company and alleged government bribery linked to Fenech. Matthew said the investigation was still ongoing when his mother was killed and that he had previously shared evidence from Electogas emails with her.

Broadcaster and activist Peppi Azzopardi, speaking as the jury trial proceeds, claimed that a senior Maltese official had been one of Daphne’s confidential sources and praised the Caruana Galizia family for sending her laptop to German authorities rather than to local officials, arguing that the move protected source identities.
