Dapto Hotel and West Dapto site approved for $25 million high‑density housing projects
A $25 million development plan for the Dapto Hotel precinct in Wollongong proposes an eight‑storey mixed‑use building that retains the heritage‑listed hotel and adds 34 new apartments, ground‑floor commercial space, a pedestrian plaza and about 98 parking spaces. The proposal, scaled back from an earlier 54‑apartment scheme, is on exhibition with Wollongong City Council and aims to boost housing supply and town‑centre renewal.
A separate planning application for the adjacent West Dapto site seeks to increase the height limit to 20 metres, allowing six‑storey towers that could deliver up to 410 dwellings, including apartments, townhouses and small‑lot homes. The development would mirror the existing six‑storey Illawarra Business Park buildings and is slated for council approval by October 2027, with staff noting its strategic merit for the neighbourhood.
