Ervin Charleyboy sentenced to four years for historic sex crimes
Ervin Charleyboy, a former longtime chief of the Tŝideldel First Nation, has been sentenced to four years in prison by the B.C. Supreme Court in Williams Lake. The sentencing follows his conviction on two of four charges, which included indecent assault and sexual assault involving a minor.
During the proceedings, victim impact statements were presented to Justice Kevin Loo. The complainant, whose identity remains protected by a publication ban, described the lifelong emotional trauma, anxiety, and struggles with addiction resulting from the historic offences. The victim noted that the abuse caused deep-seated pain and shame that persisted well into adulthood.
