Dar al-Ifta al-Missriyyah hosts fatwa methodology course for Malaysian scholars

Dar al-Ifta al-Missriyyah has launched a training course titled ‘Contemporary Fatwa Methodology’ for a group of Malaysian scholars. The program, organized by the institution's training center, aims to enhance the skills required for issuing religious legal opinions (fatwas) in a modern context.

Dr. Ali Omar Al-Farouq, Head of the Sharia Sector, opened the session, emphasizing that addressing modern developments requires balancing fixed religious principles with societal changes. He noted that the Egyptian school of jurisprudence is characterized by pluralism and an ability to apply texts to evolving realities.

The curriculum includes lectures on interacting with those seeking religious guidance and the stages of fatwa production. Dr. Mukhtar Mohsen, Secretary of Fatwa, highlighted that being a jurist does not automatically qualify one to be a mufti; professional qualification requires a combination of academic education, practical training, and ethical development. The process involves four pillars: description of the reality, legal characterization, reaching a ruling, and application to the specific case.
