Dar al-Ifta clarifies rulings on morning prayer timing

The Egyptian Dar al-Ifta has provided religious guidance regarding the timing and terminology of the morning prayer. Officials clarified that Fajr and Subh refer to the same obligatory prayer, noting that while some use the terms to distinguish between the Sunnah (voluntary) and Fard (obligatory) components, they are fundamentally the same obligation.

Regarding timing, the Dar al-Ifta stated that the time for the morning prayer extends from the Adhan until sunrise. If sunrise occurs before the prayer is performed, it may still be performed in congregation as a missed prayer (Qada), a practice considered recommended by the majority of jurists. The guidance aims to correct the misconception that Fajr must be performed before sunrise while Subh is performed after.
