Dar es Salaam road construction for AFCON 2027 reaches 50% completion
Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (TAMISEMI), has expressed satisfaction with the progress of road construction projects in Dar es Salaam ahead of the AFCON 2027 tournament.
During an inspection of infrastructure leading to various sports and training venues, Shemdoe reported that construction progress varies by location. Kigamboni roads have reached 75% completion, while the Leaders Club area is at 70%. Roads near the National Stadium (Benjamin Mkapa) and those connecting Mbweni to the Meja Jenerali Isamuyo Stadium are currently at 20% completion. The overall average implementation rate for these projects stands at 50%.
To ensure efficiency, Shemdoe has instructed contractors to increase work speed and implement 24-hour shifts. The goal is to raise the average implementation rate to over 60% by August 30, 2026. Local residents have welcomed the developments, noting that the improved infrastructure will help resolve long-standing transportation challenges in the area.
