Dara named Honorary Citizen of Sofia

Singer Darina Yotova, known professionally as Dara, has been named an Honorary Citizen of Sofia. The title was officially conferred during a ceremony held on September 17 to mark Sofia Day.

The recognition follows her victory at the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year with the song ‘Bangaranga’, a win that grants Bulgaria the right to host the competition. The Sofia Municipal Council had previously approved the distinction in May, following a proposal by Council Chairman Tsvetomir Petrov and supported by Mayor Vasil Terziev.

Officials cited Dara’s significant contribution to contemporary Bulgarian culture, her impact on the nation’s musical life, and her role in enhancing the international prestige of both the capital and the country. Dara, who is already an honorary citizen of her hometown, Varna, expressed her gratitude to the city during the ceremony.
