Darby Street receives funding to boost Newcastle nightlife
The New South Wales government has allocated $4.8 million across 41 districts to revitalize 24-hour economies. As part of this fourth round of Uptown Districts funding, Darby Street in Newcastle has been established as its own district.
The Darby Street collective is set to receive up to $120,000 to support seasonal events, including the "Darby After Dark" series. This initiative aims to connect the hospitality, arts, and business sectors through live music, workshops, and foodie activations, building on the momentum of the renovated Newcastle Art Gallery.
Other Newcastle precincts receiving support include Midtown, Throsby Basin, and the East End, all overseen by the Newcastle City Business Improvement Association.
