Darda Primary School Expansion Funded by EU and Croatia's Recovery Plan

The primary school in Darda, Osijek-Baranja County, is undergoing a 1.8 million‑euro reconstruction and expansion as part of a broader program to convert 19 local schools to single‑shift, full‑day education. More than 90 % of the financing comes from Croatia's National Recovery and Resilience Plan, with the European Union providing the bulk of the funds.

The project adds 605 square metres of new space, including six classrooms dedicated to pupils with special needs, a new library, sanitary facilities, a boiler room, a kitchen store, and an elevator to improve accessibility. An existing library area is being repurposed as an additional classroom, and overall capacity is being increased to accommodate the growing number of families settling in the area. County officials and the school principal highlighted the importance of modern facilities for both students with disabilities and the wider student body, noting a slight rise in first‑grade enrollment.

The investment forms part of a €74.4 million educational infrastructure cycle in the county, aimed at raising education standards and supporting demographic revitalisation.
