Daria Kasatkina calls for US Open match curfew

Tennis player Daria Kasatkina has called for the implementation of a match starting curfew at the US Open, citing the negative impact of late-night scheduling on players and fans.

Kasatkina noted that a recent first-round match between Venus Williams and Sofia Kenin did not begin until 12:13 a.m. She pointed out that while the WTA has a rule requiring players to step on court no later than 11:00 p.m., exceptions are frequently made. Kasatkina contrasted the US Open with Wimbledon, which maintains a curfew to avoid disturbing local residents.

While acknowledging that late scheduling may benefit the tournament from a business perspective, Kasatkina argued that it is detrimental to the athletes and viewers, who often struggle to adjust their schedules or may simply turn off their televisions due to the late hour.
