Daria Serkov, 15, killed in NYC Citi Bike accident
The family of 15-year-old Daria Serkov has issued a statement requesting privacy following her death in a cycling accident in New York City. Serkov was riding a Citi Bike with a young friend on 14th Street in Manhattan when she was struck and pinned by an excavation truck.
Serkov was pronounced dead at the scene, while her companion was hospitalized and remains in stable condition. Witnesses reported that the truck driver remained at the location and was visibly distraught following the incident.
The Serkov family expressed frustration that her identity was released before they were prepared and noted that they have had to hire security due to relentless media inquiries. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with funeral expenses and has raised more than $85,000.
