Darina Laščiaková: Funeral held for Slovak folklore legend

The funeral for Darina Laščiaková, a legendary figure in Slovak folklore and radio editor, was held at the Bratislava crematorium. Laščiaková, who passed away at the age of 94, was a prominent soloist for the Lúčnica ensemble and a multi-award-winning broadcaster known for her work with Czechoslovak Radio.

Among the attendees were several notable figures from Slovak public and political life. Andrej Danko, chairman of the SNS, attended with security and presented a large bouquet of roses on behalf of himself and the party. Also present was Simona Frantová, a television presenter and the granddaughter of the deceased, who attended alongside her mother to support the family.

Laščiaková’s career included significant contributions to music through radio, television, and various recordings. She was recognized as a ‘merited artist’ in 1975 and was celebrated for her interpretations of folk songs from the Orava region.
