Dario Dester sets historic Italian decathlon record in Talence

Italian decathlete Dario Dester has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing the 8,000-point barrier three times in a single season. At the Decastar competition in Talence, France, the 26-year-old recorded 8,149 points, marking his fourth career personal best and cementing his status as one of the world's top multi-event athletes.

In the men's decathlon, Norway's Sander Skotheim secured the victory with 8,630 points, followed by Hakim McMorris of the United States with 8,599 points and Makenson Gletty of France with 8,381 points. Dester finished in either ninth or eleventh place depending on the specific ranking metrics cited.

In the women's heptathlon, three-time Olympic champion Nafissatou Thiam made a successful return to competition, winning the event with 6,482 points. She outperformed Germany's Anna-Elisabeth Ehlers and Noor Vidts.
