Darius Boyd appointed as new Queensland Maroons coach

Darius Boyd has been appointed as the new coach of the Queensland Maroons, signing a two-year deal to succeed Billy Slater. Boyd’s appointment follows Queensland’s 2-1 series defeat to New South Wales in the State of Origin.

Boyd, a former Maroons player who scored 17 tries in 28 matches, moves into the senior role after leading the Queensland under-19 side to consecutive series victories in 2025 and 2026. His coaching background includes serving as an assistant at the Brisbane Broncos.

Queensland Rugby League chair Brian Canavan praised Boyd’s development as a leader and his commitment to the state’s pathways system. Boyd stated that he understands the responsibility of the role and aims to build upon the legacy of previous Queensland players and coaches.
