Darius Wiley undergoes successful surgery after WVU injury

West Virginia University defensive lineman Darius Wiley has undergone successful surgery following a severe lower-body injury. The injury occurred during the Mountaineers’ season-opening victory against Coastal Carolina, where Wiley was carted off the field in the third quarter.

Head coach Rich Rodriguez described the injury as a severe ligament tear that will require Wiley to miss the remainder of the 2026 season. Rodriguez noted that while the recovery process for such an injury typically takes a year or more, the program is confident in their medical staff and the player's toughness.

In his debut appearance this season, Wiley recorded three tackles, two pressures, one tackle for loss, and a forced fumble before the injury. The team is now looking to depth players such as Emerson Joy, Wilnerson Telemaque, and Brandon Caesar to fill the void in the defensive line.
