Dariya Derkach wins gold in triple jump at European Athletics Championships
Dariya Derkach has won the gold medal in the women's triple jump at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. The 33-year-old Italian athlete achieved a personal best jump of 14.60 meters on her fourth attempt.
Derkach's victory follows a challenging period in her career, including three Achilles tendon surgeries during the previous season. Her performance secured her position as the European leader for the season, surpassing competitors Saliyya Guisse of Belgium, who took silver with 14.46 meters, and Aleksandra Nacheva of Bulgaria, who finished with 14.40 meters.
This win marks Italy's first continental gold medal in the women's triple jump. Derkach, coached by Alessandro Nocera, expressed significant satisfaction with the result, noting that the achievement serves as a reward for the sacrifices made during her long rehabilitation process.
