Darja Semeņistaja advances to second round of US Open qualifying

Latvian tennis player Darja Semeņistaja has advanced to the second round of the US Open qualifying tournament. After a period of seven consecutive losses, Semeņistaja secured a victory against Japan's Haya Kinosita with a set score of 6-2, 7-5.

Semeņistaja, currently ranked 112th in the WTA, entered the tournament as the sole representative from the Baltic states in the women's qualifying draw. To reach the main draw, players must successfully navigate three rounds of competition.

The US Open qualifying tournament features a diverse international field, including players from the United States, Canada, Japan, Uzbekistan, Australia, South Korea, Argentina, China, Brazil, and Georgia. The prize money for the qualifying rounds is notably high, with the winner of the final qualifying round earning $66,000.
