Dark circles under eyes: causes and natural remedies

Dark circles under the eyes can persist despite adequate sleep. Dermatologists note that genetics, thinning skin with age, allergies, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, dehydration, excessive sun exposure, eye strain from screens, smoking, fluid retention, and underlying health conditions such as thyroid disorders or anemia all contribute to their appearance.

Several inexpensive home treatments are recommended. Almond oil applied nightly can reduce inflammation and swelling. Warm tea bags placed on the eyes for 15 minutes help constrict blood vessels. A mixture of orange juice and glycerin applied for ten minutes may brighten the area thanks to vitamin C. Additional options include cucumber slices, green‑tea extracts, and regular hydration, a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and iron, and avoiding smoking and excessive salt.

Experts advise that identifying the primary cause—whether lifestyle, nutritional, or medical—is essential for effective treatment, and persistent or worsening dark circles should be evaluated by a physician.
