Dark Horse film about Jair Bolsonaro faces uncertain release

The biographical film “Dark Horse,” which depicts the political trajectory of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, faces an uncertain release in Brazilian theaters. The production, starring American actor Jim Caviezel, was financed by former banker Daniel Vorcaro of Banco Master.

Distributor Europa Filmes is reportedly considering shifting the film to streaming services due to several complications. These include ongoing investigations into the film's financing and potential resistance from major cinema chains regarding commercial viability and political tensions. The film had already been delayed to a projected 2027 release due to regulatory issues.

Additionally, a potential Brazilian premiere may be marked by the absence of key figures. Jair Bolsonaro is currently under house arrest following a conviction for an attempted coup d'état, and his sons, Flávio and Eduardo Bolsonaro, are in the United States. Flávio Bolsonaro, who has expressed enthusiasm for the film, recently traveled to Miami despite judicial restrictions.
